I wanted to give you an update on the fostering/adoption process. I know the wait for an animal has been frustrating and I wanted to give you the latest information we have.
At the moment, the only animals being shipped out of Lamar-Dixon Expo Center are being taken to large facilities around the county (such as the Houston Humane Society, Helen Woodward Animal Center in California, and the Arizona Humane
Society). We are in the process of providing our database to these groups so they can contact you directly regarding fostering/adopting.
You may have read on our site that Project Starfish is helping to move animals out of the affected area, but these animals are not from Lamar-Dixon. These animals are animals affected by Hurricane Katrina but were never housed at the major center at Lamar-Dixon. These dogs and cats are being evacuated by various small shelters from across the country. They are also using our database to find good homes.
If you have not heard form a group looking for a foster/adoptive home, that means there is nobody in your area with animals from Louisiana or the group in your area has not had time to contact
you yet. Now that the ball is really rolling, you should expect to be contacted in the next couple of weeks.
Project Starfish will attempt to post a complete list of the shelters that have taken animals from Lamar-Dixon and from Broken Down Dog that are using our database.
Here are two shelters with BDD dogs:
If you live in Ontario, see

If you live in the DC/Baltimore area (this group will only adopt in state), see
