UPDATE FROM LAMAR-DIXONWednesday, 9/21, 12:30PM ETCynthia just reported that Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans is not allowing any animal rescue groups into New Orleans today due to Hurricane Rita. This was a big letdown for Cynthia and for all the other people who were ready to go out for another day of rescues. The storm will not hit until later this week, so it is not clear why they are not being allowed in today.
Since she cannot participate in rescue operations, Cynthia will spend the day at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center caring for the animals. She will also check up on the various animals we are tracking (the pit bull with the lacerated neck, etc).
On a positive note, the owner of the corgi mix that Cynthia and her friends from the Humane Society of Missouri rescued yesterday will be coming to get her dog tonight. The crew managed to save one out of three dogs yesterday after a woman called us in Boston on Monday begging for our help. We will have a slide show of the dramatic and heartbreaking rescue later today as soon as we can get the pictures ready for the web.
