UPDATE FROM MASSACHUSETTS

Monday, 9/26 9:45PM

We have heard from our contact at Massachusetts Animal Coalition (MAC) that Massachusetts will soon be in a position to take animals (but no word on when they will arrive).

MAC says that it has taken this long because it has been difficult finding suitable buildings that can be used for isolating a large number of animals. They say they are trying to work on this. MAC also says an effort like this takes lot of preparation if it is to be done right.

They note “Animals will need to be properly vetted and registered. Those systems are being worked on. And there are so many other details including gathering crates, donated vaccines, collars, leashes, etc.”

In response to the accusation that “no one in MA is doing anything to get ready for Katrina animals.” MAC responds that that is false. They say “Many individuals and organizations in MA are working hard to get ready for Katrina animals. Announcing every detail at every turn creates confusion and is inadvisable. Please trust that things are moving in a positive direction so that we are well prepared to receive animals.”
