APPEAL TO STARFISHERS IN MASS

Thursday, 9/29 5:30PM ET

Unfortunately, I don’t have any updates to report regarding when Katrina animals will be arriving in Massachusetts. I have been calling around and it seems that the shelters in our area are receiving a ton of calls about Katrina pets. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if each animal MA brings in has many foster applications. But there is still no word about when they will arrive (the powers that be know, but they don’t want to share their plans with us).

So as we are waiting, I have been starting to get annoyed (okay, I was annoyed a long time ago). But my personal opinion is that since the people who read this site are committed animal people with lots of love to give, maybe we should not wait for MA to get their act together.

I am guilty of this myself, I have been getting worked up about saving these animals from Louisiana while there are literally hundreds of dogs and cats sitting in Massachusetts shelters right now. I still think the animals in the south need to be our focus (I heard of a shelter in MS today that literally shoots its dogs when they run out of room) but since you out there want to save a life, I wonder if we should go and adopt RIGHT NOW.

We have 250 people signed up to adopt in MA. What if we did a mass adopt and cleaned out a few shelters? Then the big guys would have notice us.

Please send us your thoughts. I will try to highlight animals in need in MA on our site.
