WENTZVILLE, MO: If you were following Cynthia’s rescue efforts in New Orleans,
you will remember the dog in these pictures.
This poor girl was chained in a yard
with two male pit bulls, one of which was vicious due to abuse. Despite this,
Cynthia said that this dog was a big sweetheart. Something about her really
touched Cynthia's heart and the two bonded right away.
The dog was brought back to Lamar-Dixon and to safety, at least for the moment.
But on Cynthia's last night at Lamar-Dixon, she saw that her dog was the next
in line to be put on trucks and shipped out. Cynthia had no idea where this
dog would be going and she couldn't bear the idea of letting her go. So, thanks
to some very special friends, Cynthia was able to get a dispensation to take the
dog. But there was a problem on the horizon — Hurricane Rita.
The next morning, Cynthia woke to soldiers shouting that they had to evacuate.
The military kicked the volunteers out of Lamar-Dixon and Cynthia had nowhere
to bring the dog. She was standing there with her dog crying when Jodi
Scognamiglio and Toni Paschall of Wentzville, MO saved the day. These
good-hearted women helped Cynthia by agreeing to take the dog (they had a car
and Cynthia did not).
Today, this dog is living in the lap of luxury. Her name is now Katrina and she
is having the time of her life. She also happens to be pregnant. To read about
how she is living now compared to where she came from in New Orleans,
