RESCUED AUSSIES COMING TO NEW ENGLAND

Monday, 10/03 10:00PM ET

Today we learned of an elderly couple and their Aussies that need our help. The Don't Be Cruel Sanctuary in Albany, LA is trying to place three beautiful, pure bred Australian Shepherds that can no longer be cared for by their owners. One of the dogs is a 4-month-old male and the other two are 8-month-old females.

This family is a victim of Katrina—their trailer was severely damaged by a tree during the hurricane. They have no insurance and could not fix the damage. Then, to add insult to injury, Rita hit them and caused even more damage.

Sadly, these dogs were originally purchased to supply income through breeding. Now the family cannot keep them. The dogs are living with the couple and Don’t Be Cruel Sanctuary is trying to find them a home. Don’t Be Cruel has agreed to provide a $300 adoption fee for each dog, which will help these folks recoup some costs and try to regain their lives somewhat. We realize this is a large adoption fee, but we feel it will be worth it to save the three dogs and to help this family recover. Our concern is that if we don’t help get these dogs out of there, the couple will sell them to a puppy mill.

If you are interested in these Aussies, please let us know (pictures coming tomorrow). Project Starfish will be transporting these three dogs to New Hampshire on Sunday, October 9.
